Testing & Research

University of California

The University of California Davis Extension Service conducted processed tomato efficacy trials in Merced County California that compared an OS stand-alone program with  conventional applications that included the internationally recognized Miracle-Gro.  The results  show an outstanding yield of over 18% more than the yield from Miracle-Gro, in this case 31.6  tons per acre from the OS program versus 26.7 tons per acre.  Additionally, the overall nutrient  and pest management input costs were lowest with the OceanSolution program.

Swank Specialty Produce

Swank Specialty Produce is a hydroponic and organic farm located in Loxahatchee, FL. In 2012 testing was conducted using OceanSolution (OS) organic fertilizer on green and yellow beans. The two groups received the exact same nutritional program with the only difference being that one group had foliar applications of OS once a week. When Brix was measured, it was found that OS increased the average Brix of the yellow beans by 20% and the green beans by 27.5%.

Utopia Farms

Utopia Farms in Utopia, Florida performed a trial to test the effect of growing tomatoes using an  OceanSolution stand-alone program compared with a traditional synthetic program. The results  were that the OS program produced a 50% increase in tomato yield while at the same time  reducing all-around input costs. In addition, the OS program resulted in a 15.8% increase in  Vitamin C, a 48.6% increase in Vitamin A, and a 3% increase in BRIX (sugar content).

Valley Blue Farms

Valley Blue Farms in Cornelius, Oregon performed tests using OceanSolution on blueberries under the supervision Mon Yee Ph.D. of Cal Poly University Pomona. The test compared their  standard synthetic protocol with an OS protocol combined a 50% reduction in N. BRIX, a  measurement of sugar content, was the focus of the test, and the OceanSolution protocol  increased BRIX by 52% in 2010 and 22% in 2011 relative to their normal synthetic program.

PAT2H

PAT2H Horticultural Research Services Inc. in Rydal, GA performed testing on marigolds and  geraniums using OceanSolution products in stand alone applications compared with an industry  standard 20-10-20 control. According to the lead researcher, the marigolds and geraniums  grown with the OceanSolution protocols achieved the same commercial acceptability as the  synthetically fertilized control group.

Rutgers University

OceanSolution (OS) was included in a Rutgers study comparing over 50 different commonly used fungicides and related inputs. In one application, OS was tank- mixed with a half rate application of a standard synthetic fungicide, and another application featured the full rate of this fungicide combined with another common synthetic fungicide.  The OS treatment decreased the number of lesions of Dollar Spot by 25% and increased the judged overall quality of the grass by roughly 22% compared to this application. Further, on a scale from 1-9, turf treated with the OS program was judged to have the highest quality (7.3) of all 60 total applications at the end of the trial.  This documents OS's ability to assist with disease mitigation when tank-mixed with fungicides.

Rutgers University 2

OceanSolution (OS) was included in a Rutgers study comparing over 50 different commonly used fungicides and related inputs. In one application, OS was tank-mixed with a half rate application of a standard synthetic fungicide. Compared with the full rate of this synthetic fungicide, the OS treatment decreased the percentage infected grass by 10% and increased the judged overall quality of the grass by roughly 10% This OS application also performed acceptably well relative to a good proportion of the synthetic and natural disease-control programs in the trial.  This provides further documentation of OS's ability to assist with disease mitigation when tank-mixed with synthetic and natural fungicides.

University of Missouri

In a very unique experiment, the University of Missouri sought to determine the efficacy of Roundup PowerMAX, a market-leading conventional herbicide, when used with an OceanSolution growing program during soy production. The result was that the OceanGrown program reduced the rates of common weeds such as annual grass, common waterhemp, and common ragweed 8 to 31% when combined with Roundup PowerMAX compared to Roundup PowerMAX applied alone – an indicator that the OS program can stimulate strong plant growth while improving the efficacy systemic herbicides.

Confidential Client

A leading agricultural science company performed a trial to evaluate the use of OS in corn seed- coating applications. In most cases, OS treatments outperformed both their current standard  treatment and their standard treatment combined with other biological products. The most  striking advantage was that the OS program corn developed a fungus 3 weeks after harvest,  while the conventionally grown corn developed the fungus 1 week prior to harvest.  This result  has given rise to a continuing study by the company to see if there is a role that the OS program  may have in terms of “Integrated Disease Management.”  A discussion on the potential of the  company seeking a joint-patent for the product as a seed treatment technology was raised and is  being pursued.

Natural Health Place

The Natural Health Place conducted an experiment to determine the effect of using OceanSolution 2-0-3 on cabbage, clover, and radish sprouts. Sprouts were grown using only filtered water and were compared to sprouts grown using the same filtered water supplemented with OceanSolution 2-0-3. In all three cases, OceanSolution 2-0-3 increased yield by roughly 10%.

University of Florida

The University of Florida is currently testing the effects of OceanSolution on limpograss used for cattle grazing. Though the overall test is not complete, an early tissue analysis of the limpograss was taken to compare the internal composition of grass treated with OS to untreated grass. OceanSolution significantly increased the quantity of 9 out of 10 essential plant elements tested.

Kennesaw State University

Kennesaw State University tested to compare the nutritional contents of produce grown both hydroponically and in soil with OceanSolution and compared the nutritional content to that of standard store-bought equivalents. Check out the results from the first round of testing below.

Planting Summer Vegetables

OceanSolution was used against a conventional fertility program on an Indiana alfalfa farm.  Products were applied after cutting to 4 inches. OceanSolution doubled growth rate and raised the quality of the crop in almost every category.
